I must come up wtih a more exciting title for my blog but maybe I will let the students vote on that one! I am a Integrated Information Teacher here in Braintree, MA but I would describe myself as a library media specialist. I will be blogging about what students are doing here at Flaherty and also about books. This year in 5th grade we will be doing book trailers again. This was a project I was really excited about last year but with seeing students only once a week, it took quite a long time. I really liked the trailer for the book Wonder and for Flora and Uylysses too.  I went on the site Book Trailers for Readers and got inspired  by the trailers there. Here is the address:  book Trailers http://www.booktrailersforreaders.com/Home+Student+Book+Trailers

Last year I used photostory to actually make the trailer and although I found it easy, I think I may try MovieMaker this year.  It is interesting to see what some students create each year.

World Book Online.  We have it through our town library, Thayer Public Library and it is such a great resource for students.  Research for students should start with an encyclopedia and the online version is fun and kid oriented with pictures and videos. Like many other librarians, I don't think young students should be using Google for research.  3rd -5th graders have been learning how to access WBO and checking it out.

In 1st grade I read Kevin Henkes, a favorite of mine. We read Owen and Kitten's First Full Moon. I enjoy the striking but simple drawings as well as the humor in Kitten's First Full Moon. I did read his novel Sun and Spoon this summer and give it a thumbs up.  I read Olive's Ocean years ago and that was really good.  Now I want to read Junonia.
